What is QHSE?

The term QHSE is often used, especially at INBISCO. But it is not always clear to everyone what QHSE exactly means. Read on for all the information about QHSE!

You often see the term “QHSE” because of the importance of QHSE Management for every organization. But what this term actually means is not always clear to everyone. Because at INBISCO QHSE management is the core of our software modules for process, risk and quality management, we will therefore delve deeper into this important term in this blog.

QHSE/HSE/QA?

QHSE stands for Quality, Health, Safety and Environment. In the business world, the term QHSE often stands for QHSE Management. QHSE Management is a form of management that concerns itself with the implementation or establishment of a policy within your organization that ensures that your company complies with the requirements of legislation regarding the quality and environment of products, services, safety, health and other working conditions. However, QHSE also has many other names that actually mean almost the same thing, such as; HSE (health, safety & environment) or QA/QC (quality assurance/control).

The QHSE Manager

Now that we know what QHSE entails, the question is what a QHSE Manager (or HSE Manager, QA coordinator, QHSE advisor, etc.) actually does. A QHSE manager is responsible for the QHSE policy within a company and is involved in, among other things:
  • Performing internal and external audits,
  • Checking, evaluating and managing risks, quality plans, annual plans and reports,
  • Analyzing environmental aspects within your company,
  • Analyzing safety issues and making improvement plans;
  • Obtaining, maintaining and managing ISO certifications;
  • Consulting with business units and stakeholders about the above issues;
  • Advising management teams within the company.
A QHSE Manager therefore focuses primarily on creating a safe workplace, ensures that all relevant laws on working conditions are complied with and processes QHSE in the company’s system.

The importance of QHSE

A good QHSE policy is very valuable and important for many medium to large companies, especially when companies are involved in logistics, the production of goods or are active in the chemical industry. A good QHSE policy within your company provides transparency, grip and control over your entire company structure and provides you with information and knowledge about how your company functions and can possibly function better. In addition, with a good QHSE policy you create a safe working environment for your employees, because work risks for employees can be recorded and can therefore be addressed quickly. QHSE should therefore certainly not be underestimated and can help your company improve business processes, make your entire business operations more transparent, create a safer workplace for your employees and result in more innovation.
